RAWALPINDI – A high-level defence delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo, led by Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting dignitary was presented with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent, according to ISPR.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and ways to further enhance bilateral defence and security cooperation, the military’s media wing said.
ISPR said both sides expressed satisfaction over the longstanding cordial relations between Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at broadening and strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules also held meetings with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.
The visiting defence chief appreciated the professionalism, operational capabilities and commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces to maintaining peace and stability in the region, ISPR said.
He also acknowledged the significant progress made by Pakistan’s armed forces in the areas of indigenisation and self-reliance.
