PARIS (News Desk) – French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has stated that any law to ban burkini swimsuit would be totally against the constitution that it could farther the differences among the local communities.
In an interview published on Sunday, Cazeneuve said France does not any new law because the existing constitutional structure is purely secular.
“The government…refuses to legislate on this because a law would be unconstitutional, ineffective and likely to create antagonism and irreparable tensions in France,” he said.
The statement came as France’s highest administrative court, the Council of State, on Friday declared the ban on burkini in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet as null and void.
Following the ruling, other courts in the town where mayors have banned burkini swimsuit are also expected to issue orders.
However, former President Nicolas Sarkozy, who marking a political return from the platform of Les Republicains party, has called for a law that would allow mayors to impose ban on burkini.
