ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family submitted documentary evidence on the legitimacy of their assets before the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday and what shocked the observers and opponents was the inclusion of prince of Qatar name regarding London flats.
According to the details, the counsel of PM’s sons Akram Sheikh argued in court that Qatari prince gave money to the Sharif family for the purchase of flats in London.
A letter by Hamid Bin Jasim bin Jaffer Althani of Qatar’s royal family was also submitted before the court suggesting that Hamid’s father was a close friend of Mian Muhammad Sharif (Father of PM Nawaz).
The letter states that Mian Shareef desired to invest in real estate business of Qatari royal family for which he sold his Dubai steel mill.
Moreover, the London flats at Avenfield House were registered in the ownership of two off shore companies which were later handed over to Hussain Nawaz Sharif as per the consent of his grand father Mian Sharif.
The letter addressing the apex court states that Mian Sharif invested 12 million Dirhams in the Al Thani company belonging to the Qatari prince’s father in 1980 after selling Dubai steel mill.
“In the year 2006, the accounts in relation to the above investment were settled between Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Al Thani family, who then delivered the bearer shares of the companies referred in para 4 above to a representative of Hussain Nawaz Sharif,” the letter read.
While Akram Sheikh presented the letter before the apex court, the court observed that the latest statement was in flagrant contradiction with PM Nawaz statement which he made in National Assembly of Pakistan as Nawaz Sharif in his address to the Parliament said that the London flats were bought from the proceeds of the sale of their factories in Jeddah.

Responding to the letter Justice Khosa asked Sharif family counsel, Akram Sheikh, whether the Qatari prince will appear as witness in court.
Moreover, Akram Sheikh expressed that he was representing PM’s sons in the court and so the other lawyer Salman Butt would be clarifying the position of Premier Nawaz Sharif before the court. he assured the apex court of full support in this regard irrespective of the verdict.
He maintained that no money what so ever was transferred from Pakistan for purchase of London flats.
The court directed the parties to exchange documents, which are claimed to be evidence, to examine.
