ISLAMABAD (APP) – Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam has said the defence and nuclear deals between India and the United States would disturb balance of power in the region.
Speaking in Nuqta-e-Nazar programme of Radio Pakistan, the spokesperson said India could use the US civil nuclear technology to make nuclear weapons, which was a serious concern for Pakistan.
She said the United States and India have also signed a defence deal regarding conventional weapons along with transfer of technology, which will heighten tension in the region.
The spokesperson said it is surprising that the United States has announced support for permanent membership of India in the UN Security Council though New Delhi has not implemented several UN resolutions.
Taking part in the programme, former Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said there was no consensus among the international community on expanding the Security Council.
He urged the United States to press India to resume dialogue with Pakistan for resolution of the issues.
