CJP Nisar furious over not arresting Zahid Talpur in police humiliation case

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday showed annoyance over the lack of interest of police to arrest the person who misbehaved with the police in Kunri, Umerkot.

The Chief Justice was hearing a case of suo moto notice when he became furious over  Mirpurkhas Deputy Inspector General Javed Odho for not arresting the main accused yet.

Another judge, Justice Umar Ata Bandiyal questioned what the police had done so far regarding the incident that took place on May 2. Being head of the department, the DIG was responsible for the reputation of his force, he added.

The DIG informed the court that Zaid Talpur and Asif Pathan had gotten protective bails, adding that two of Talpur’s aides had been arrested, while search for others was underway.

The Chief Justice had taken notice of release of an influential feudal lord in a case of police humiliation in Umerkot, Sindh.

The notice had been taken on media reports that Nawab Zaid Talpur forcibly entered Police Station, Kunri, District Umerkot and humiliated and maltreated the Station House Officer (SHO).

Reportedly, Nawab Zaid Talpur demanded the SHO to sit on the ground and speak to him, while he himself sat on the chair of SHO.

Following the incident, the accused persons were arrested but later on they were released owing to alleged political intervention.
