Kerry in Beijing to discuss South China Sea situation

BEIJING (Web Desk) – US Secretary of the State John Kerry has arrived in Beijing to hold a series of meetings with Chinese President Xi Jingping and other top officials.

Kerry is expected to discuss the South China Sea situation with Chinese leadership in detail.

Earlier he held a joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and raised United States’ concerns over the Chinese claims to the territories in South China Sea.  We have reservations about the pace and scope of China’s reclamation projects in the region, he maintained.

Mr Wang said that China was determined to safeguard its sovereignty.

China claims almost the whole of the South China Sea, resulting in overlapping claims with Brunei, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia.
