LAHORE – The Ashura, 10th Muharram, is being observed today, Sunday, with solemnity across Pakistan amid strict surveillance to pay homage to the supreme sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions.
The mourning processions are being taken out in major and small cities amid sobs and tears to commemorate the holiest day of Islamic calendar.
The law enforcement agencies have made the strict security arrangements to avoid any unfortunate incident, a province wise plan of which is as follows:
Punjab
The home department of Punjab has declared Rawalpindi and Lahore the most sensitive cities in its security plan for Ashura, 10th Murharram and more than 146000 security personnel have been deployed for the day across the province.
Moreover, around 20000 security, FC and Rangers personnel will also be performing their duties to maintain law and order situation.
The procession and congregations, Majalis, will be monitored through Digital cameras and air surveillance would also be done.
The Metro Bus service would remain suspended in twin cities.
According to Home department 8491 processions will be held on Ashura across the province which have been divided in three categories.
In category A, 1221 procession were declared most sensitive, in category B 1846 and in category C 5400 procession have been included.
The mobile phone services are also expected to remain suspended
The Director Rescue Dr Rizwan has directed all the district officers to remian available during the 9th and 10 Muharram procession.
For Multan city, CCPO will himself monitor the security as 21 mourning procession and 8 mourning congregations have been declared most sensitive in the city.
More than 3000 police personnel and officials along with 2200 volunteers will perform the security duty.
Sindh
The mobile phone service will be suspended and pillion riding will be banned during the 10 Muharram in Karachi and other major cities of Sindh.
The central procession will start from Nishter Park amid strict security. Strict security arrangements will be made for Hyderabad where pillion riding has been banned for the day.
The traffic police has devised an alternate route according to which, traffic coming to Soljar Bazar and Coast Guard will be diverted to Jubille after the procession, Traffic from Nazimabad to MA Jinnah Road will move to Garden from Lasbela.
Vehicles from Liaqatabad to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted to Marton Road from Teen-Huti while traffic from Gru Mandar will not be allowed to come at MA Jinnah Road as it will be diverted to Shaher-e-Faisal from Kashmir Road and Society light signal.
Traffic coming from Mazar-Quaid will be diverted from Buhadar Jang Road.
Khyber Pukhtunkhwa
The youm-e-Ashur will be observed with solemnity across the province and several mourning processions are being held.
The city administration has imposed section 144 and banned pillion riding in Peshawar.
Balochistan
The pillion riding will also be banned in Quetta city and other major cities of Balochistan.
Local administration has imposed section 144 in entire province to avoid any untoward incident.
