Stephen King s IT nets 553M worldwide, leaving Kingsman: The Golden Circle floating at 200M globally

The classic cult horror flick based on the book by Stephen King is taking the lead with $553M worldwide, leaving behind the hot shot of last week Kingsman: The Golden Circle at $200M on the international box office.

Director Andres Muschietti’s It has become 176th film to earn this record (Forbes).

The film has bagged the one of the most well sought R – rating performances in the history of horror films (Forbes). It has also broken the 44 year old record of The Exorcist at box office with $441M worldwide. It is anticipated that It: Chapter 2 hitting the silver-screen in 2019 will be a smash hit.

Domestically, “It” currently stands at $272 million at the U.S. box office as of Sept 27. “Crossing $500 million is rarified air for any film, but for a horror film it is history-making, and we could not be prouder,” said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and distribution at Warner Bros.
