NEW DELHI – Two years after announcing its India franchise, Merlin Entertainments, the world’s second largest entertainment and visitor attractions company, has opened their first wax statue museum, Madame Tussauds, in Delhi.
Situated at the Indian capital’s prime central business district, Connaught Place, and housed in the iconic Regal Cinema building, Madame Tussauds Delhi opened with 50 wax figures specially curated to charm both local and international visitors.
Divided into five zones – Films, Sports, Music, Party, and Leaders, Madame Tussauds Delhi has a fine mix of international and national figures in all these zones to give quite an experiential tour of the museum and allowing tourists to click selfies with the legends.
In order to give a local touch, the display starts around Delhi’s iconic Chandni Chowk with the most lively wax figure of Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan on a cycle rickshaw, the Financial Express reports.
The prominent wax figures that adorn the Madame Tussauds include that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, sports legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Olympian Usain Bolt, English footballer, David Beckham, Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, Indian Boxer, Mary Com, Music legends like Asha Bhosle, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, among others.
According to Anshul Jain, General Manager and Director, Merlin Entertainments India, the museum can accommodate up to 500 people at a time, with an expected footfall of 2,500 visitors per day. While the Museum will be open from 10 am to 7.30 pm, Jain said that they are open to extend the timings on special group requests.
“All the figures are imported from London,” shares Marcel Kloos, director, new openings, Europe and emerging markets, Merlin Entertainment, adding that this is done to ensure consistency and quality.
Madame Tussauds Delhi is the 23rd Madame Tussauds in the world and is a big attraction with visitors in each destination, Jain said.
Around 550 million people have visited Madame Tussauds around the world.
Tickets are open at INR860 for adults and INR660 for children. These tickets are flexible as the purchase remains valid for a year from the day of purchase and allows the guest to visit at any time of their choice.
