JAKARTA (Web Desk) – Thousands of people living near the slope of a volcano in Indonesia have been forced to leave their homes and flee when the volcano began erupting violently.
BBC reported Mount Sinabung, on the island of Sumartra, became active after 400 years in 2010. However, the volcano started to erupt violently since June 2.
At least 3,000 people have already fled their homes to a safe place; while scientists fear the volcano can pose more dangers in the coming weeks.
Hot ash and gas gushed down the sides of the mountain at high speed on Monday.
“There were signs a lava dome was growing on Mount Sinabung,” said an Indonesian government volcanologist.
Thousands more people are expected to evacuate the area, as the Indonesian government has raised the alert for Mount Sinabung to highest level.
