Central Prison Karachi’s women jail to set up a literacy program to facilitate education

LAHORE – Central Prison Karachi’s women jail is setting up a literacy program for women. It is reported that “a library is to be built to further facilitate this venture”. If anyone wants to donate Urdu/Sindh books, they can do so and help the jail facilities improve their project.

Earlier, Some 124 women prisoners at Karachi Central Prison here Wednesday were provided with gymnasium facilities as part of efforts being made for their rehabilitation.

Nuzhat Shirin, Chairperson, Sindh Commission on the Status of Women appreciated the work of CWP-LAO and committed that the Commission will support the women prisoners any way it can.

This step seems like a great opportunity for the inmates to make their time come to use while they are serving their sentences behind bars. Education will make them live their life productively inside the jail and when they do eventually come out of it. Great initiative!
