Anonymous White House official blasts Trump as amoral in explosive NY Times article

WASHINGTON – A leading daily of the United Station, The New York Times, taking a rare action on Wednesday published an anonymous opinion piece written by a senior White House official describing President Donald Trump a person without morals and erratic.

The anonymous essay set tongues wagging and invited the wrath of President Trump who called it gutless. Soon after the article entitled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration” was published, Trump posted a single word tweet.

The unknown official in the explosive piece wrote, “The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations”.

Raising questions over the ability of Trump to effectively steer the country, the writer explained that other senior administration officials were actively working to thwart the president on decisions that are detrimental to the nation.

“But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic,” the essay added.

“That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office,” read the anonymous piece.

Explaining reasons, the official said: “The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making”.

The article also praises Trump for his achievements, including effective deregulation, historic tax reform, and a more robust military, but it mostly slams his way of ruling.

“But these successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective,” it added.

The officials wrote that the erratic behavior of Trump would be more concerning if it were not for unsung heroes in and around the White House.

Assuring the citizens of the country of protecting the democratic institutions, the official said: “It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t”.

Talking about his foreign policy related action, the author specifically highlighted that Trump did not take action against the Russian government over poisoning a double agent and his daughter with nerve agent earlier this year in the UK.

“He complained for weeks about senior staff members letting him get boxed into further confrontation with Russia, and he expressed frustration that the United States continued to impose sanctions on the country for its malign behavior,” the official writes. “But his national security team knew better — such actions had to be taken, to hold Moscow accountable.”

The author said that an option to remove Trump by invoking 25th Amendement due to his instability was also considered, adding, “But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis. So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until — one way or another — it’s over”.

Following the anonymous essay, Trump lambasted the leading daily and questioned the existence of the author. He tweeted, “Does the so-called ‘Senior Administration Official’ really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source? If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!”

It is notable that the opinion was published a day after excerpts of Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” described the West Wing working under Trump.
