ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter) – Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan has congratulated captain Azhar Ali, head coach Waqar Younis, manager Naveed Akram Cheema and the entire support staff on a remarkable series win over Sri Lanka.
He appreciated string of remarkable team and individual performances to seal the five-match One Day International series 3-1 against Sri Lanka, with the final game at Hambantota still to be played on July 27.
Chairman PCB called up Azhar Ali and the team management from London Wednesday night to felicitate the squad over making the nation proud, said a PCB press release issued here on Thursday.
Chairman PCB’s Executive Committee Najam Sethi also congratulated the captain and the team management on clinching the series with a clinical performance.
“Team Pakistan outclassed Sri Lanka in all its three wins in the series. The self-assured manner in which you provided the leadership and the all-round skill-set on display was most reassuring for the Board and the passionate cricket fans,” the PCB chief said in his message to captain national team.
“Even more satisfying was the fact that Pakistan’s new look ODI squad now seems to be shaping up quite nicely. Having hit a trough in recent times, with this performance in one-day internationals it is now obvious that Team Pakistan has turned the corner,” he said. “As this young team matures, improving its bench strength along the way, I am sure that it would be able to compete and prevail over the top sides in the world in bilateral contests and ICC tournaments.”
“After the Test series, this ODI rubber victory also coming in an away series against Sri Lanka after nine years is indeed admirable. And in this the contribution of the coaching staff headed by Waqar Younis cannot be ignored,” he added.
