K-Electric dubbed Killer Electric by Karachi residents

KARACHI: In the wake of K-Electric’s failure to manage electricity supply during the recent rain spell, a number of Karachi residents have dubbed the organisation as “Killer Electric”.

According to The Nation, almost every part of the port city, posh or slum, experienced power outages during and after the rains in the recent days.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Haleem Adil Sheikh also criticized K-Electric for poor management. “It is actually Killer Electric for the Karachiites which has failed to provide electricity to the city, making citizens’ lives more miserable,” he said, adding that the company had collected billions in revenue but remained interested in improving the electric infrastructure of the city.

A similar remark was issued by Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmakers. They condemned KE, saying that instead of facilitating the citizens they had only paid lip-service to the notion of ending power outages in the city.

“The KE always brags big words but has not increased power generation by single a MW even,” they said.

KE has, however, denied the allegations of major power breakdowns in Karachi over the last two days. A spokesman of the organization, instead, put the outages down to the negligence of other institutions.
