Former US president and the current presidential candidate Donald Trump has issued a warning to Mark Zuckerberg, threatening legal action if the Facebook founder engages in any unlawful activities to influence the forthcoming presidential election.
The former president made this claim in his new book, Save America, which features a collection of photographs and anecdotes from his presidential campaigns and time in office.
Accompanying a photo of Trump meeting Zuckerberg at the White House, Trump wrote: “He would bring his very nice wife to dinners, be as nice as anyone could be, while always plotting to install shameful Lock Boxes in a true PLOT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT.”
This comment refers to the more than $400 million (£303 million) that Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan Zuckerberg, donated to election offices in 2020. These donations primarily benefited Democratic-leaning counties in certain states, as some Republican politicians declined the funds after Trump warned against using them to encourage mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump and his supporters have repeatedly blamed these donations for contributing to his 2020 election defeat.
In his new book, Trump wrote, “We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time, he will spend the rest of his life in prison—as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
Trump’s third coffee table book also includes photos of him with world leaders like North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and Germany’s former chancellor, Angela Merkel. It also showcases images of the large crowds he often boasts about, who gathered in Washington, D.C., to hear his speech before the January 6 attack on the Capitol in 2021.
Meta, Zuckerberg’s renamed company, has yet to respond to the contents of the book.
