SRINAGAR – Attackers opened fire on an Indian army camp in occupied Kashmir on Sunday night, two weeks after a similar attack killed 19 soldiers and ratcheted up tensions between India and Pakistan.
An Indian army spokesperson said the camp at Baramulla, a frontier district, had come under fire. “Exchange of fire on,” the spokesperson said.

As per reports by Indian media, the suicide attack has claimed the life of one Indian soldier.

“The attack began at 10.30pm, when the assailants tried to enter through a public park near the camp, but were stopped. They then took positions on the banks of the Jhelum river, the Baramulla police control room said,” Hindustan Times reported.

According to NDTV, at least two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured.
India Today said one BSF soldier was killed in the gun attack.

“According to the officials, the terrorists were believed to have entered the establishment through the adjacent BSF camp but were not able to breach the 46 Rashtriya Rifles camp. Heavy exchange of fire broke out in the region,” Indian express reported.

India claimed it launched “surgical strikes” after a September 18 attack on the Uri army base near the Line of Control with Pakistan, saying it caused casualties.
Pakistan dismissed the claim that Indian forces conducted a surgical strike on Pakistani side of Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Kashmir violating the 2003 ceasefire treaty.

As many as two Pakistani soldiers were martyred as India resorted on unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan in response to Indian offence at the Line of Control killed at least 14 Indian soldiers.
Following the refusal from UN to confirm the Indian claims of ‘surgical strikes’, Pakistan Army on Saturday took independent journalists to the Line of Control (LoC) at Baghsir 20 kilometers from Bhimber to show the situation on ground.

“The area is such that infiltration by Indian forces is impossible and the area is monitored in such a way that even movement of wildlife does not go undetected,”Geo News’ Zarghoon Shah reported.
India claimed it filmed surgical strikes, but despite strong rebuttal and growing suspicion over its claims, India has yet to release any footage to substantiate its claims.
Secretary General UN, Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric also on Saturday rejected the Indian claims.

Dujarric said “The UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) has not directly observed any firing across the LoC related to the latest incidents.”
When asked to explain how UNMOGIP can say it did not observe any firing even as India said it has conducted the surgical strikes, Dujarric repeated that UNMOGIP has not “directly observed” any of the firing.
