RAWALPINDI – The Punjab Home Department on Thursday imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha in view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk, while the district administration has also decided to deploy Rangers in Rawalpindi to assist the police.
On the instructions of the founding chairman of PTI, a protest will be held at D-Chowk tomorrow, Friday. In response, the twin cities’ administration has become active, and strict security arrangements have been made.
More than 4,000 police officers, FC, and Rangers will be deployed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to prevent the protesters.
The Punjab Home Department issued a notification to impose Section 144 in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha for three days, banning political gatherings, rallies, processions, sit-ins, and demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi’s district administration has decided to tighten security in anticipation of the possible protest by the political party and has sought the services of Rangers to assist the police.
Four companies of Rangers have been requested from the federal government for assistance in the city, and according to sources, the Rangers will support the police in any emergency situation.
