KP CM Gandapur ‘arrested’ in Islamabad amid PTI protest

ISLAMABAD – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was arrested in Islamabad for allegedly attacking state, misusing state resources and damaging public properties.

His arrested was confirmed by KP CM’s brother Faisal Amin and PTI leader Omar Ayub, who said the chief minister has been taken into custody by the Islamabad police.

The development comes soon after Gandapur reached Islamabad to hold protest against the government at D-Chowk despite a ban on public gatherings and rallies.

Meanwhile, government sources have denied arresting the KP chief minister, terming the media reports false.

Clashes were also reported at the entry points of the capital city between Islamabad and PTI workers, escalating the situation further ahead of the SCO summit.

Reports said police resorted to tear gas shelling to prevent the PTI workers from entering the capital city while the other side pelted stones, injuring some security officials.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emphatically stated that nobody will be allowed to sabotage the SCO summit to be held this month.

Talking to media, Naqvi said he is in constant touch with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He mentioned that the Army and FC have been deployed in the capital and that maximum deployment of security personnel will be ensured.

The interior minister regretted that the protest led by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fired on police personnel in addition to using tear gas. He stated that we have an idea of the motives behind it.

On other hand, KP Information Advisor Barrister Saif said the police and rangers have arrested the KP house to arrest the chief minister.

He said Ali Amin Gandapur was granted a bail for a month in all cases by court.
