The Meteorological Department has predicted that rainfall in Punjab will continue until October 8, with expectations of thunderstorms and strong winds across the province.
In an official statement, the Meteorological Department indicated that cities such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, and Hafizabad are likely to experience rain. Furthermore, from October 6, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, and Bhakkar may also see rain accompanied by strong winds.
Irshad Ali Khatia, the Director-General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), has instructed district commissioners and local authorities across the province to remain alert. The PDMA control room will monitor the situation 24 hours a day, and emergency services, including Rescue 1122, have been put on standby.
He advised that water drainage from low-lying areas should be expedited and urged citizens to stay away from electric poles and hanging wires. The public is also advised to avoid kachcha (mud) houses and dilapidated buildings, with particular emphasis on keeping children safe and away from accumulated water in low-lying areas.
The PDMA Director reminded citizens that they can call the PDMA helpline at 1129 for any assistance.
These rains are not only expected to change the weather but may also lead to flooding in various regions, making it crucial for the public to take necessary precautions.
