No Public Holiday on September 6 in Pakistan as govt clears air on fake notification

ISLAMABAD – Pakistanis mark September 6 as National Defence Day, and the day used to be an official holiday in previous years, but not this year as government cleared the air on the matter.

Ministry of Information issued clarification, saying the viral notification about the public holiday on September 6 is fake.

A post shared on Ministry of Information Fact Check page on X said sharing of false information is both “unethical” and illegal. “Disseminating #FakeNews is not just unlawful and unethical; it also harms the nation,” the post said.

The government urged everyone’s responsibility to reject such irresponsible actions. It ended the post with Reject #FakeNews hashtag.

Defence Day honors sacrifices of soldiers during the 1965 War with India. The day commemorates Pakistan’s defense against Indian forces, who crossed the border. Pakistan celebrates the day as a victory over an unprovoked Indian attack.

In Pakistan, the day is marked with military parades, displays of weaponry, and ceremonies.

Has Pakistan announced public holiday on September 6?
