Elections 2018: Saad Rafique decides to contest polls against Imran Khan from NA-131

LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique has decided to contest elections against Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan.

According to media reports, Saad Rafique will contest election against Imran Khan from National Assembly constituency NA-131.

Khawaja Saad Rafique of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz bagged 1,23,416 votes from NA-125 in general elections of 2013.

The firebrand leader of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz had earlier expressed that his constituency had been widely affected owing to recent delimitation, adding that he would contest the elections against Imran Khan from any constituency in the city

NA-131, with a total population of 7,72,182 would be the new constituency of National Assembly (NA) from Lahore after recent delimitations. The new constituency would cover the areas of R A Bazar, Nishat Colony, Cavalry, Walton, Defence, Kamahan, Bedian Road, Airport, Bhatta Chowk and Chungi Amar Sadhu.

Earlier, PML-N finalized the list of candidates for National Assembly (NA) constituencies in Lahore. Maryam Nawaz has decided to contest election from NA-125 against Dr. Yasmin Rashid of PTI.

Former chief minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will contest election from NA-134. PTI’s Zaheer Abbad Khokar will be his opponent. Hamza Shahbaz will face PTI’s candidate Waleed Iqbal in NA-124 constituency.

The preliminary list of delimitation was issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the aftermath of the 6th population census conducted in the country in which the share of Punjab was decreased by 7 seats but one seat was added in the share of Lahore as the NA constituencies from the metropolitan increased to 14 from its old share of 13.
