WhatsApp group admin arrested in India for sharing inappropriate image of PM Modi

BENGALURU- WhatsApp group admin Krishna Sanna Thamma Naik was arrested in Bengaluru city of India after he shared a picture of PM Narendra Modi.

According to media reports, the allegedly insulting picture of Narendra Modi was shared in a group named ‘The Balse Boys’ by 30-year-old Naik.

The Group admin was arrested after the complaint was registered by a local of Bhatkal who alleged the Prime Minister’s photo had been morphed to make it look “obscene and ugly”, according to a police officer.

This is first arrest case of such kind where a whatsApp group administrator was punished merely for sharing a photo.

Last year, two Indian state governments had issued instructions, saying social media admins were liable for content circulated in groups and could be prosecuted for sharing any factually incorrect, rumor or misleading information.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging application in Pakistan’s arch rival with over 160 million monthly active users.
