Pakistan urges Youtube, Whatsapp to tackle hate mongering for safer world

ISLAMABAD – In a move to curb the negative use of social media sites, Pakistan has urged tech giants YouTube and WhatsApp to take action against hate mongering, days after Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) Twitter handle was suspended on government’s complaint.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday tweeted that Facebook and Twitter are fully committed to eliminating fake news and spread of hatred.

He wrote, “It is so welcoming that giants like Twitter and Facebook are now fully committed to regulate their platforms to combat the menace of fake news and hate mongering.

The demonstration ended after the government and agitators reached an agreement. During the protest, the TLP chief distanced himself from the elements which caused destruction in the country.
