LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz has taken back the documents submitted by former first daughter Maryam Nawaz for contesting the July 25 polls from NA-127, in the backdrop of Avenfield reference judgment.
The party leader Ali Pervaiz Malik submitted a request with the relevant returning officer, seeking the withdrawal of party ticket, as the accountability court has barred the de-factor PML-N leader to contest elections for a period of 10 years.
Malik has contended that he seeks to submit his own papers to confront the rivals in the constituency, tucked in the heartland of Lahore – Punjab’s capital city.
The decision was made as Judge Muhammad Bashir blocked the entry of first-time candidate Maryam and her husband, Captain (r) Safdar in the electoral fray for a decade, in the Avenfield reference verdict announced on Friday.
Additionally, Maryam has been asked to pay a fine of £2 million (Rs320 million) in a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau.
Besides, the judge handed a 10-year sentence and £8 million (Rs1.29 billion) to Pakistan’s former prime minister in a corruption reference pertaining to Sharif family’s Avenfield apartment in London, UK.
In the detailed decision, Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir also sentenced Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, to seven years in jail for forgery and making assets through illegal sources in the landmark decision.
Moreover, the judge ordered to seal the property in question, suggesting the government to do legislation to bring plundered money back to the country.
Capt (r) Safdar Awan, who is the son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, was jailed for one year for cheating- he is currently in Pakistan.
