ISLAMABAD – The two-week long standoff between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People Party regarding the appointment of IG Sindh AD Khawaja finally ended Sunday as the federal government has appointed AD Khawaja as DG FIA.
According to the Online news agency, the federal government also appointed Captain (r) Arif Nawaz as Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab as Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera will retire on Monday.
Approval to the appointment of Amjad Saleemi as IGP Sindh and Amin Wains as IGP Balochistan has also been given.
“The appointment of AD Khawaja as Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was given following mutual understanding of the PML-N and PPP,” the agency reported citing its sources.
Sources added that the federal government did not consult with interior minister regarding the appointment of AD Khawaja as DG FIA.
The Sindh government had appointed Abdul Majeed Dasti as new IGP Sindh. However, the Sindh High Court ordered AD Khawaja to continue his work as IGP Sindh, making the appointment conditional to cabinet approval.
After this, the Sindh government convened cabinet meeting and gave an approval to Abdul Majeed Dasti’sappointment as new IGP Sindh. However, one more petition was filed which has caused deadlock.
Online sources further said that the matter was agreed during the meeting held between opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
