LAHORE (Staff Report) – A teenage student got seriously injured when a crane operating at Orange Line Metro Train Project hit her while she was crossing the road on Tuesday in Darogha Wala area of Lahore.
Savera Anwar, a 9th class student, was returning home from academy. While she was crossing the road, the crane hit her from behind.
The girl, resultantly, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital where according to doctors her condition is critical.
Police have registered a case against the crane driver and started investigation.
Since the inception of this multi-billion metro train project, seven people mostly workers have so far lost their lives.
On Jan 25, a senior citizen was crushed to death by a crane engaged at the under-construction track of Orange Line in the limits of the Sabzazar police station.
In the same month, two workers lost their lives while two others get serious injuries when a crane collided to live electricity wires at project site in Kibria Town Raiwind Road near Thoker Niaz Beg.
Around two to three thousand labourers engaged at the project are working without taking any safety measures. The authorities, however, are just silent spectators as no one dares to ask the powerful contactors.
The 27km long Orange Line is an under construction project of the Lahore Metro network, financed and developed by the Government of China as a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through the Export-Import Bank of China.
Once completed, it will connect Raiwind, Multan Road, Mcleod Road, Lahore Junction and the Grand Trunk Road.
