PTI chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat arrested outside Parliament House

ISLAMABAD – Police on Monday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat outside the Parliament.

According to police sources, Shoaib Shaheen was also arrested from his home.

The police are still stationed outside the Parliament House to arrest more PTI leaders.

Before Barrister Gohar’s arrest, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Zain Qureshi, and Shahid Khattak were also present with him inside the Parliament House.

Police officials have stated that Umar Ayub and Zartaj Gul will also be arrested; however, Ali Muhammad Khan has left the Parliament House and has not been arrested by the police.

Sher Afzal Marwat was arrested under the new law for violating regulations and was detained in connection with a case involving a clash with the police.

Sources also indicate that a crackdown is likely to begin against the Punjab leadership present at the rally under the new law, and Islamabad police have officially informed Punjab police.

It was further revealed that cases against PTI leaders have been registered in three police stations. The cases were filed under the Assembly and Public Order Act 2024, including charges of obstructing official duties, vandalism, and violating Section 144.

After the National Assembly session concluded, a heavy police presence arrived outside the Parliament House in full readiness. As PTI leaders emerged, the police took positions and then detained Sher Afzal Marwat.

During the arrest, there was a scuffle between Sher Afzal Marwat’s associates and the police, but the police managed to detain him and seize his vehicle before departing.

A heavy police presence has been deployed outside the Parliament House, and the entry and exit points to the Red Zone have been closed.

The Red Zone has been completely sealed off from D-Chowk, NADRA Chowk, Serena, and Marriott.

Currently, Margalla Road is the only open route for entry and exit from the Red Zone.
