GB receives second snowfall of season, disturbing routine life

GILGIT – The mountain peaks of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) received the second snowfall of the season, causing the sudden drop in temperature. The Pak-China border area (Sust, Hunza, and Gujal) Pass in the south and Babusar Pass in the north-east connecting the GB with rest of the country, received heavy snow, which disturbed the routine life of locality of high mountain areas and cites of GB. Snowfall in Gilgit also decreased mercury in Baltistan and Diamer division. The white strips of snow have covered Hindukush, Himalaya and Karakorum mountains range and can be seen from far any part of the valley, presenting an eye-catching and picturesque view. Meanwhile, the remotest hilly valleys of Gilgit situated in its extreme north and north-east including Nalter bala, Bagrote and Gasho pahoot have received more than three inches snowfall. According to metrological department Gilgit, Skardu remained coldest places in Gilgit-Baltistan with minimum temperature minus eight (-8)°C today. The minimum temperature in other districts includes Gupis and Astore -7°C, in Gilgit and Hunza-5 °C and Chilas 3 °C. Landslides may occur in the few areas of GB, Meteorological Department said.
