ISLAMABAD – Leaders of opposition parties spoke out against the arrest of Member National Assembly Jamshed Dasti and called it government’s ‘revenge’.
Today, opposition leader Khurshid Shah wrote a letter of Speaker of the National Assemby Ayaz Sadiq asking him to issue a production order for Dasti enabling him to attend budget session.
Shah said that Dasti had the right to attend the debate over the budget in the Parliament, adding that the government, which is under pressure due to Panama probe, was using dirty tactics.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Shah Mehmood Qureshi accused the government of adopting unfair means to put pressure on opponents.
After being refused to meet Dasti in Central Jail, Qureshi said that the government was taking revenge from Dasti for protesting during presidential speech, revealing that a government minister had threatened him of consequences on protesting in the Assembly.
A well-known politician, Javed Hashmi also criticised the government over the arrest of Dasti, adding that it was wrong to not allow anyone to meet Dasti in jail.
Jamshed Dasti was arrested earlier this week in Muzzafargarh for allegedly inciting the people to open a sluice gate at the Kalu headworks canal.
Justifying his action, Dasti had said that he opened the water only to facilitate farmers who were facing shortage for their crops.
