LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Afnan, the accused in the Defence car accident case.
A two-member bench, consisting of Justice Shahbaz Rizvi and Justice Tariq Nadeem, heard Afnan’s bail plea.
The defense argued that Afnan’s three friends were declared innocent during the investigation and the allegations by the complainant were not proven. They claimed that geofencing was conducted, and the witnesses included in the case were not present at the scene.
They also noted that witness Zubair Ghafur had given two statements and that Affan was 17 years and 6 months old at the time.
The court inquired whether Afnan was declared a juvenile in the challan, to which the lawyer responded affirmatively. The defense requested bail if the trial did not commence within six months.
The prosecution stated that the forensic report of the vehicles was still pending and a medical board was being formed for juvenile assessment. They requested that the decision on bail be deferred until the medical board’s report and geofencing results were available.
After considering the arguments, the court approved Afnan’s bail request.
In November 2023, a car accident in Lahore’s Defense area resulted in the deaths of six family members. The deceased included two women, one girl, one boy, and two men.
The head of the deceased family, Rafaqat Ali, claimed that the accused had misbehaved with the women in the car, attempted to pull their dupattas, and followed them aggressively, resulting in the collision.
