NEW YORK – A US-based publication ‘The Christian Science Monitor’ has nominated Prime Minister Imran Khan in the list of potential candidate for Nobel Peace Prize. Pakistan’s premier is being listed amongst several world leaders who stand out for their remarkable peace gestures.
The editorial board of the magazine appreciating the efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan stated, Perhaps the biggest surprise in peaceful leadership – and most critical to the world – is Imran Khan.”
PM Imran Khan has been included in the list in the wake of his recent ‘peace initiative’ in a bid to de-escalate tensions with India. Prime Minister Khan had announced the release of Indian fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman within a day of his arrest in the Pakistani territory of AJ&K.
“In a goodwill gesture that suddenly changed the mood, Mr. Khan returned an Indian fighter pilot shot down inside Pakistan. He also offered talks with India and promised to seize the assets of terrorist groups operating in Pakistan,” read the Monitor’s report.

“Nobody wins in a war. Especially countries that have the sort of weapons like India and Pakistan possess, should not even think of war,” PM Khan had said.
Soon a social media campaign kick-started on Pakistan Twitter space demanding a Nobel Peace Prize for PM Imran Khan. His peace gesture is said to have retracted the two countries who were standing on the brink of war. The Monitor further stated, “He is the first prime minister not to come from the traditional political establishment.”

“Events are still moving in each country and the Peace Prize will not be known until October,” it added further. Besides, PM Khan, the South Korean President Moon-Jae has also been included in the list for opening doors to talk with North Korea.
