Nation set to celebrate 70th Independence Day with fervor

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani nation is all set to celebrate the 70th Independence Day, falling on August 14, with great patriotic zeal by renewed pledge to safeguard the motherland against any threat and to work for the country’s prosperity.

Citizens in major cities and far off places have started decorating homes and shops with Green and White buntings, stickers and flags to give the final touches to their preparations for Azadi day.

The Independence Day celebrations would start with Flag hoisting ceremonies at government and private organisations on Monday’s morning followed by the national anthem and prayers for country’s progress.

Ceremonies of Change of Guards would be held at mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Allama Iqbal in Lahore.

A special flag ceremony would be staged in Islamabad where Chinese Premier Wang Yang would show up, implying the severity of close relations between Pakistan and China.

Special prayers will be offered for the prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country, unity of the Muslim Ummah and the success of the long drawn struggle of the Kashmiris after Fajar prayers. It will be a public holiday day throughout the country.

A host of events, including seminars, conferences, lectures, debates, speech contests, exhibitions, quiz competitions, stage dramas and Mushairas have been arranged by different organizations in connection with the day.

State-run Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television would broadcast day-long transmissions to inculcate the true message of independence and nationalism among the masses.

The most hair-raising event of the day would be flag lowering ceremony at Wagah border minutes before sunset where Pakistani Rangers would display their strength through different physical moves.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has released a new national song on the eve of 70th Independence Day celebrations showing solidarity with the nation.

PAF would also hold a biggest ever air show in Islamabad and Karachi on Independence Day.

Moreover, Azadi Train which is one of the striking features of Independence day celebrations has begun its journey from Margalla Station Islamabad on Sunday.

The train after making stopover in Lahore, Multan, Khanpur, Sukkur, Sibbi, Quetta, NawabShah and Hyderabad would terminate its journey on August 25 at Karachi cantt.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif’s Schedule

The former Priem Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif would visit the mausoleum of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore.

Flanked by a bevy of ministers, the former premier would recite Fateha at the place.
