KARACHI – Special powers given to Rangers under the Anti-Terrorism Act are going to expire today (Friday).
Dunya news quoted sources as saying that a summary seeking 90-day extension in Rangers’ special powers was forwarded to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on April 5 but no action has been taken so far..
If granted by CM Murad Ali Shah, the summary will be sent to the federal government and the policing powers will be extended till July 13.
Earlier, the provincial government gave an extension for 90 days to Rangers powers in Karachi in January this year.
The federal cabinet had granted special powers to Rangers to start a targeted operation with the support of police against criminals involved in target killings and other illegal activities.
The Rangers operation was launched in September 2013 in Karachi.
