SYDNEY – Twelve people were killed when armed attackers opened fire on civilians at a beach in Sydney, Australia.
According to foreign media reports, the shooting occurred at Bondi Beach, where two armed individuals began firing at the public. As per initial reports, 12 people have been killed, while 29 others—including two police officers—were injured.
Australian police have termed the incident an act of terrorism, stating that one of the attackers was also killed, while the second suspect has been taken into custody.
Foreign media reported that the shooting took place during an event linked to a Jewish religious festival. Following the attack, police cordoned off the area and advised residents to stay away from Bondi Beach.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the shooting at the beach as a distressing and tragic incident.
