MUNICH – Singer Adnan Sami and his wife Roya have named their daughter after holy city of Medina.
Roya gave birth to Medina in Munich and hence she holds a German citizenship by birth.
Adnan, in an interview with celebrity website Pinkvilla, said: “I have named her after the city of Medina, which embraced Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) when he was forced to leave Makkah. Even today, the city is known for its love and hospitality. It’s also here that you’ll hear the most beautiful Azaan, immersing you in a wave of spirituality. So, I felt that Medina was an apt name for my baby.”
He added his daughter will eventually come to India and “we’ll apply for her Indian citizenship”.
“Mumbai is home to us. Medina Sami Khan was born in Munich because Roya’s family lives in Germany and she had five sisters to help her while I was travelling for work.”
Born in Pakistan, Sami, who has spent more than a decade living in Mumbai, was granted Indian citizenship on New Year’s eve 2016.
He was last seen in Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan where he sang a qawwali titled Bhar Do Jholi Meri.
