LAHORE – A tragic incident in Pakistan’s largest public sector university shocked everyone as a student identified as Umm-e-Habiba ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.
The 5th-semester student at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the hostel room of University of the Punjab on Sunday.
Habiba reportedly visited friend’s room in afternoon to rest. The friend returned at 7:30 pm to find the door locked and received no response to her knocks.
Security personnel arrived and forcibly opened the door, where they found girl’s lifeless body. It has been noted that her elder sister is also a student in the same department and resides in the same hostel.
Muslim Town police started probe along with the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), quickly arrived on the scene to collect evidence. PU spokesperson said the incident may be a case of suicide, although the police officials are investigating with all angles.
PU community is in mourning as they grapple with the loss of a young life, and further details are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
