China knock out Pakistan to reach Asian Hockey Champions Trophy final

BEIJING – China defeated Pakistan 2-0 in the penalty shootout to advance to the final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 on Monday.

The match between Pakistan and China was tied 1-1 at the end of regular time, after which the decision was made through a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Pakistan failed to score any goals, while China posted two goals.

Last week, India defeated Pakistan by 2-1 in the final group stage match of the tournament at Moji, China, on Saturday.

With this victory in a thrilling match, India entered the semi-final round unbeaten.

Ahmad Nadeem put Pakistan into the lead by posting a goal in the eighth minute. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh however turned the game into his side’s favour with two penalty corner goals in the first half.

India had maintained the lead till final quarter, beating Pakistan 2-1.

Previously, Pakistan’s first two matches against Malaysia and South Korea ended in draw. The Team Green later beat Japan and China to secure second spot on points table.
