LAHORE – Following an official announcement, the Punjab Governor House was opened for public on Sunday and was visited by over 25,000 citizens on the first day.
The first such visit by the general public however marred the beauty of the historical building, especially its lush green lawns, as the residents littered trash all over the place.
Pictures show empty bottles, wrappers, plastic bags, and plastic cups on the ground of the Governor House.
“People are the real owner of such buildings and the initiative taken on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan is aimed at telling the general public of lavish lifestyle of the past rulers who resided there,” Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar had said prior to the public visits.

People were also found plucking fruits from the trees there; and even many plants were destroyed by the citizens of Lahore.
During the British Raj, this building was being used as the official residence of the British Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab and following the independence of Pakistan in 1947, it was formally designated for the use of Punjab’s Governor.
Earlier, former Punjab Governor Mian Muhammad Azhar opened Governor’s House’s gates for schoolchildren, college and university students in the 1990s. During his tenure, over 20,000 students visited the Governor’s House and this tradition is continued till today.
