PPP to fully support every movement for rights of Fata: Zardari

ISLAMABAD – Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Friday announced that he would support every movement for the rights of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

During a meeting with members of parliament from Fata, he said that they stood along the people of tribal areas to support the merger of Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that tribesmen will be given full support if they hold a sit-in for their rights, adding, “We will raise voice for tribal areas on the floor of the House and outside the Parliament”.

On March 4, the federal cabinet had approved recommendations put forth by the Federally Administered Tribal Areas reforms (FATA) committee.

The approval came during a crucial cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and senior officials including K-P Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra.

According to sources privy to the developments, it was also decided that the Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) will be repealed after a constitutional amendment.

Later, PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai opposed the merger of Fata with KP, terming it ‘an independent area.

On the other hand, All Fata Political Parties Alliance announced protest demonstrations throughout the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) against delay in the implementation of reforms in the tribal areas.
