PILDAT seeks access to Punjab s annual advertisement expenditure

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) Thursday requested access to the Punjab Government’s Annual Advertisement Expenditure.

According to a press release, Pildat has requested information for a month-wise breakdown of the Punjab Provincial Government’s annual promotional advertisement expenditure from the Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR), Punjab.

The DGPR acknowledged receipt of this request, dated October 20, on November 2, 2015. In its fourth Monitor on Knowing Your Right to Information, Pildat assesses the Federal Government’s otherwise strong commitment to RTI in light of recent directives issued by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Division, which ask for all information harming the public interest to be withheld from disclosure.

Despite having repealed the controversial amendment excluding itself from the ambit of the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) Right to Information Act 2013, the Provincial Assembly of KP has not yet uploaded MPAs’ attendance records on its website.

By comparison, the National Assembly of Pakistan’s website has been regularly updated with the attendance records of MNAs dating back to June 05, 2015, whereas attendance records of MPAs updated on the Punjab Assembly website date back even to February 10, 2015.
