Imran berates govt over placement of regulatory bodies under ministries

ISLAMABAD – Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan berated the PML-N led federal government for its decision to place five regulatory bodies under the command of ministries.

A press released issued by the party stated that the move reflected the disregard for transparency and accountability.

“Nawaz Sharif has destroyed the independence of these regulatory authorities by placing them under the administrative control of the very ministries they were meant to regulate and oversee,” said a statement.

Khan expressed that such a move was unacceptable in a functional and meaningful democracy adding that his party rejected the move.

He condemned the government’s move of placing the authorities under ministries and dubbed it as a plan to convert a parliamentary democratic system to monarchy.

The government amended Rules of Business, 1973 in order to place the said regulators under the ministries.
