Earlier, German authorities released a Pakistani man believed to be behind the deadly carnage, due to insufficient evidence while the driver of the truck is still at large.

“The forensic tests carried out so far did not provide evidence of the accused´s presence during the crimes in the cab of the lorry,” said a statement by German prosecutors regarding the collusion of a Pakistani for the act.

12 people were killed while 48 were left injured on Monday night as a lorry plowed into crowd in Berlin Christmas market at Breitscheidplatz.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel reacted quickly to the incident, with spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeting: ‘We mourn the dead and hope that the many people injured can be helped’
