JEDDAH (Web Desk) – The holy city of Makkah embraces Ramazan quintessentially with special cuisines and decorations but this time the city is missing something very important known as the “Ramadan cannon”.
Residents of Makkah used to start and break their fast with the honking sound of the Ramadan cannon but now traditions have changed.
Historian Tariq Makki recalls how festive Ramazan used to be. “The main features of the Ramadan table were certain types of dishes and drinks, including subia, soup, sambusas, thin bread, rice, vegetables, pudding and custard.” he said.
Makkan neighborhoods were also adorned, stalls were set up selling liver and boiled chickpeas and above all electric lights were erected alongside roads, he added.
