No flood risk in Sutlej; water level declining at Ganda Singh Wala: NDMA

ISLAMABAD – The water level in River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is continuously decreasing which has mitigated the risk of flood in the River.

“If India does not release more water into River Sutlej, then there is no risk of major flood at the moment,” said National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Spokesperson Brig Mukhtar Ahmed.

In a recent flood situation issued by NDMA, he said the major flood relay, passed by Ganda Singh Wala last night, would reach head Sulemanki on August 23. “The flood relay would further pass on from Islam Head-works and culminate into Chenab River on August 28 at Panjnad,” he added.

Brig Mukhtar informed that around 2475 people had been moved to safer places from Okara and Kasur districts. Moreover, almost 2,133 people were provided with transport support to shift their goods from the affected area.

“A base camp in District Kaur has been established at Talwar Post. However, along with medical assistance for the people in the camp, the veterinary facility has been provided to take care of the animals,” he added.

He said that at present medium level flood was prevailing at Guddu in River Sindh whereas water flow in all other rivers and headworks of the country was below the sign of danger.
