Julianne Moore wins best actress Oscar

HOLLYWOOD (APP) – Julianne Moore on Sunday won the best actress Oscar for her moving performance as a linguistics professor suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s disease in “Still Alice.”

Moore defeated France’s Marion Cotillard (“Two Days, One Night”), American Reese Witherspoon (“Wild”) and two actresses from Britain — Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”) and Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”).

It was a case of fifth time lucky for Moore, 54, who had been nominated on four previous occasions but came away empty-handed.

“I read an article that said that winning an Oscar could lead to living five years longer,” Moore beamed.

“If that’s true, I’d really like to thank the Academy because my husband is younger than me.”
