Interior Minister Nisar to hold much-awaited press conference today

ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is reportedly set to hold the much-awaited press conference on Monday (today) after it was postponed on Sunday, Geo News reported.

Earlier, the press conference was scheduled for 5pm on Sunday and was postponed owing to medical advice of minister’s doctors.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson has stated that the presser was postponed only because of health reasons and advised media from spreading rumours over it.

Earlier, rumours were afloat that the Nisar is considering to quit the PML-N as media reports said that the interior minister did not attend Friday’s crucial meeting of the PML-N’s parliamentary party headed by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to local media, the differences occurred between Nisar and party over handling the Panama Papers case as he had advised the prime minister not to appear before the JIT.

Citing sources, Geo news reported that contrary to popular perception, the presser will not be against the government or the prime minister as the minister is likely to lash out at the role of opposition parties in the Panama Papers affair.

Sources further said that the minister may only resign from his ministry in protest if Defence Minister Khawaja Asif becomes the interim premier in case the prime minister leaves office.

On July 22, Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders held a meeting with the enraged minister to appease him but reportedly failed to persuade him not to leave the party.
