KARACHI (Web Desk) – The government has said the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has an affiliation with the defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to a report released by BBC.
The Interior Ministry, in a letter to the provinces, said the banned LeJ sought help from al-Qaeda but formed a nexus with TTP when the request was not granted because of al-Qaeda being engaged in Iraq and Syria.
Afterwards TTP chief Mullah Fazlullah contacted LeJ and provided them with financial support.
LeJ militants, in an attempt to free their imprisoned members, might hold ordinary people hostage, the letter detailed, adding a man namely, Abdul Rehman, from Kabirwala, Punjab, is in charge of monitoring LeJ activities and has planned attacks in Lahore and other areas.
The letter further said the purpose of targeting Shias in the country is to pressure the government to halt executions of convicts belonging to terrorist cells.
The recent surge in violence in the country is the result of the affiliation between LeJ and TTP.
So far 22 terrorists have been executed, including a number of LeJ workers as the government intensifies the operation.
