LAHORE (Web Desk) – Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing really does have health benefits, say experts, as getting rid of food and plaque in your teeth helps prevent gum disease by removing sources of bacteria.
Dentists across the world say irregular maintenance of teeth could result to gum diseases later in life.
Gum disease is a bacterial infection of the tooth supporting structures of your mouth i.e. your gums, the fibres that attach the tooth to your jaw bone (periodontal ligament) and the bone surrounding your teeth.
Gum disease begins with plaque, which silently spreads over your teeth every hour, creating a layer on your teeth called a “Biofilm”.
This video shows vitro plaque biofilm formation, using time lapse photography, starting with a clean tooth over an 8 hour period i.e. plaque forming on a tooth over an 8 hour period.
