PM directs Nisar to visit Karachi, address Sindh government’s concerns

ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to visit Karachi and address Sindh government’s concerns over Rangers powers.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad to discuss issues of Rangers’ policing powers and Karachi operation. The CM conveyed Sindh government’s concerns to the PM regarding Rangers powers granted to the paramilitary troops under antiterrorism law.

According to sources, the PM assured Qaim Ali Shah that all concerns would be addressed, and expressed his commitment to continue Karachi operation at all cost. Nawaz further said federal government respects Sindh Assembly’s resolution but all issues should be resolved with mutual agreement,

Talking to the media after meeting, Qaim Ali Shah said under article 147 of the Constitution, it was the right of the provincial government to call in officials of any institution conditionally or unconditionally, adding that Sindh Assembly made a decision on Rangers and gave it powers to carry out operations against target killing, extortion and terrorists.

The meeting was also attended by Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah, Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal, federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar.
