Kami Sid s short film Rani to be screened at Cannes 2019

LAHORE- We may have not seen any Pakistani celebrities shine at the Cannes red carpet but filmmakers from our country are making waves at the Cannes Film Festival this year. First Iram Parveen Bilal was seen at the Cannes Cinéfondation Atelier program. Her project Wakhri was one of the 15 projects presented at the Cannes L’Atelier co-production meeting.

Now GrayScale Productions has announced that their short film Rani, starring transgender model and activist Kami Sid, will also been screened at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.

GrayScale Productions took to Instagram to announce the news. “Rani has been selected by the London Film Academy to be part of a special showcase of films, at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival! The Short Film Corner runs from May 20th till May 25th, at the 72nd Festival De Cannes,” the post read.

Rani – produced jointly by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions-stars transgender model Kami Sid, Maaz Khan and Hina Pathani.

The short film is a unique story about a transgender Pakistani woman who decides to take care of an abandoned baby. It highlights the journey of a toy vendor, played by Kami Sid, who faces many difficulties after she decides to become a parent to the abandoned child.

Earlier this month, the film also bagged the Special Jury Award for Impact at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) 2019.
